Tesco is coming back to Hounslow town centre.

Several years after the supermarket giant closed its branch near the bus garage it plans to move back to a site almost opposite.

“A new Tesco store and new homes will attract more shoppers and help to revitalise this area of Hounslow town centre, as well as providing convenient parking, shopping and better choice for local people."

James Hepburn, development manager St James’s Investments

Tesco will bulldoze Hounslow House and open a new superstore in London Road.

The proposal includes two and three-bedroom flats and 100 parking spaces.

A recent survey found that Hounslow town centre attracts just 15 per cent of shoppers living in its immediate catchment area. The supermarket chain hopes this will mean more people shop locally.

James Hepburn, development manager for St James's Investments, said: "A new Tesco store and new homes will attract more shoppers and help to revitalise this area of Hounslow town centre, as well as providing convenient parking, shopping and better choice for local people.

"We want to get the proposals right and deliver the best scheme possible for the town centre which is why we are holding a public exhibition at an early stage. We are very keen to hear your views."

The proposals will be on display at Hounslow House, 730 London Road, from 10am to 6pm today.

It's always a good thing to see unrequired buildings being re-used in a positive way and I frankly don't care if Tesco, Waitrose or whoever moves in to take it over. However, Hounslow is already a pretty grotty, ugly hovel of a town so I hope the planners choose to provide a bit of greenery to brighten up the area. Isleworth London Road end isn't much better - are there any decent supermarkets willing to sweep aside the overcharging Nisa and Spar shop and scruffy car-wash business to improve the standard here as well???

Tesco left when there was no other supermarket in the area. Granted it was only a little store which didn't offer much but it was better than what we already had-nothing. Now a huge Asda has been built and the area is being developed, Tesco has seen this and wants a piece of the pie. Well its too late, We dont need you, find somewhere in Iselworth or another area which has nothing and wait until until the area gets developed to reep the rewards!

The Tescoization of the UK continues...
Much like Walmart is doing here in North America, and people think its a good thing? It might regenerate an area in decline but at the cost of other local businesses that will close up shop as a result.

Good! Perhaps those twee little shops will realise that they are doing nobody any favours when they pass of their goods at top dollar past their sell-by dates. Old stock is neither antique or quaint, it just stinks.
