Update: Boris ahead in mayoral race
Reports suggest Conservative Boris Johnson is ahead on votes in the race to become London Mayor.
Counting began shortly after 8am following yesterday's elections with many tipsters saying the poll was too close to call.
Early reports say that Mr Johnson has the most first preference votes in nine out of first 14 constituencies.
Labour's Ken Livingstone - who is bidding to win a third term in office - is believed to have the most first perference votes in five areas.
But second preference votes, which decided previous elections, are not yet known.
Delays mean the result is not expected to be announced at City Hall until after midnight.
If Mr Johnson wins it would round off a perfect week for the Tories who made great gains in last night's local elections.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown is facing pressure from Labour MPs for a change in direction after a nightmare at the polls which saw the party slump to its worst results for a generation.
The margin was similar to the drubbing received by John Major in council elections in 1995, two years before he was ejected from Downing Street by Tony Blair.
Broadcasters' analysis suggested that the Tories would enjoy a landslide Commons majority of between 138 and 164 seats if the results were repeated in a general election.

The idea that the Tories could potentially get such a huge majority in the Commons at the next general election... *shudder*... Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Don't worry, we'vce all voted BNP to give the Tories a kick to start being a right of centre party again.

Surely this is a stark warning to the government, that the people of the UK are fed up with thugs getting "slapped wrists", Murderers getting fines, rapists being released, Peado's getting internet access in jails, Drivers being fined left right & center, Taxes increasing, wages decreasing, rents & Mortgages going up, help for "working" citizens being non-existant & yet scroungers & spongers getting more & more benefits & free stuff all the time, Foreigners cominghere to claim benefits & use our education & health services, with no contribution from them, houses given to non-uk citozens, while our elderly (some of whom fought in a war to protect our way of life) are abused & robbed of their dignity by being placed in care homes where foreign workers degrade & beat them (on the news).
For **** sake - [bold]DO SOMETHING!!![/bold]

I would love to have the opportunity to work on solutions for the above problems, But the truth is, the UK is so **** scared of not being seen as "PC" that we have no back-bone! The people (not ordinary Joe's like you & I, But people in power) would never allow me to say the above! OH NO! That would see me shot down in flames, because any party that agreed with any of my points would lose the "PC brigade Vote!". Until we all start shouting, writing, emailing our disgust at the way we as a country roll over & let foreigners/murderers
/scroungers/criminal
s etc tramp all over us, we will never be truly "Free" to enjoy our country! My Grandad & my father both fought in WW2 for us to have freedom & peace, both of them lost out in the end (not enough money for a decent care home for my Grandad & my dad died of an anuerism, when he was deemed at 74 to be too old to operate on as it wasnt cost-effective, however Mr Masoud in the bed next to him had a hip replacement 6 months after entering the UK!), - Well I for one think they fought for those of us that contribute - NOT for those that dont!
Someone please tell me what party will help us regain what we once had - the respect of the world - I dont want to live in Europes dumping ground & thats exactly what we are now!
I am not rascist, I believe in immigration, BUT only when skills are bought into the country that we are lacking & only when it is not a licence to use our services without paying in for them!

Vote for Sarah, shes got it spot on!!!
We should be proud of where we are from & not have to put up with the pathetic excuse for a government who couldnt organise a p*** up in a brewery.
Honest hard working people like us know where its at but the government will never know, they drive around in their rose tinted limos & live in their country homes!
Come take a walk round London & see it for what it really is, a mees that they can only blame themselves for!!

Sarah is exactly right. People have to stop being pc. Hard working, moral, educated, caring, law abiding people should be the ruling class, not the scum sucking lay abouts getting the easy way in life. Enough is enough.

Sarah has said exactly what the majority of us feel. Let's get rid of Brown and get this country back on track and a place we can all be proud of.

Hiel Sarah, Hiel Sarah!! I think I see the point you are trying to make, but then 6 million jews ended up seeing the point Hitler was trying to make too. It is this kind of Tabloid reader, reactionary, blame all our woes on anyone but ourselves attitude that leads to the kind of ultra nationalist thinking that does no one any good. Correct me if I'm wrong Sarah, but from the way you are writing, it sounds as though you don't actually know anything about EU policies, immigration legislation, Health service risk assesment criteria or our domestic legal system. (You can't get a fine for Murder. If convicted of Murder the sentence is mandatory LIFE imprisonment.) Far from "Vote for Sarah" you are one of those armchair politicians who think the country would be a far better place if only you got the chance to run it, when in fact, if faced with the task you would find yourself so completely out of your depth that you wouldn't stand a chance in hell. The saddest thing is that you seem to have attracted support in your views. Come on people, think! It's not as easy as that to run a country! Yes this country and the way it is run is not perfect, but if you don't like things the way they are, vote the current government out. The answer to all of our woes is not to shut Britain off from the rest of the world. If you can't get a job because "Jonny Foreigner" will work for less. re train and get a better job. If you don't trust the NHS anymore (Though believe me it is a lot better than a great many other countries) put a little aside each week and get some health insurance. If you don't think education is what it once was, spend some time with your kids doing educational activities. Basically stop moaning about it and do something yourself!! But there again, it's easier to do nothing, blame someone else and go back to watching Pop idol isn't it!

Well done Sutton!
Not only did you vote for the Lib-Dem Circus to run the council. You have just helped a clown run London.
